Like all successful commercial companies, manufacturing companies are constantly adapting to meet the new demands of their customers. To do so, they must have an equally efficient Information System.
However, the search for performance is not only a purely financial exercise and the need to innovate and adapt quickly to change is now considered as the main challenge facing companies, particularly in the exercise of their Digital Transformation.
The ID&AL (Interactive Design & Automation Execution Loop) model is for CXP, the representation of the Information System adapted to meet this objective. It is based on a strong interweaving of transactional and management applications, bringing functional coherence to respond quickly and effectively. Although a majority of vendors claim to have such application solutions, they are not all as advanced when evaluated according to the ID&AL model.
Challenges
For several decades, teknowlogy Group has been conducting regular business intent studies to establish current and future market demands.
Concerning the industrial sector, the latest study carried out among 160 European companies with more than 500 employees, representative of the equipment and high-tech production sectors (49% in series), the chemical-pharmaceutical sector (16% in process), and the machine production sector (35% in small series and unit production), highlighted topics that are very revealing of the expectations of the management committees interviewed.
When asked "what are the main challenges for your company?"
it appears that innovation is the challenge most often cited by companies (68%)
Other topics that should contribute to a better performance of industrial companies are also expressed. Thus, reducing costs while responding specifically to customer demand is a concern shared by over 40% of companies.
As for the notion of extended enterprise (internationalization, ecosystem integration, adapted business model), it results from the effects of globalization but also from the impact of the media coverage of new players such as Tesla, which is shaking up the automotive world both by its technology and its marketing methods.
In order to stand out from the competition, it is not surprising that these areas of progress are at the heart of the thinking of company managers.
The concepts of industry of the future or industry 4.0 aim to transform the industrial model through digital technology. They are based on the following pillars: support for the implementation of an innovative strategy, development of technological services for industry, and financial aid to help companies in their transformation.
Our study confirms that the majority of companies have indeed launched reflections and actions in this direction. Some of them (38%) are primarily explorers with "just to see" projects. Faurecia is a good example of this digital research and development, with 200 use cases identified, 40 "Proof-of-Concepts" carried out and 12 technologies selected for concrete applications (Cobots, RFID, Augmented Reality, IoT, etc.).
Other applications concern improvements long overdue but difficult to implement until now due to technological limitations.
The other major challenge is of course the capacity of the information system to support the implementation of this business strategy.
An information system adapted to new challenges
CIOs (Chief Information Officer) have an increasing role to play in an environment where technology in general, and IT in particular, has become an integral part of the industry's business. To help CIOs align their information systems with this perspective, teknowlogy Group proposes the ID&AL (Interactive Design & Execution Loop) concept.
ID&AL aims for an IS to be adapted and responsive in a world of rapid change by providing a coherent set of management and transactional flows of products, customers and financials. This model is based on the idea that the applications that make up the IS are always aligned towards the same objective: to propose and constantly provide an adapted response through a differentiating and evolving customer experience while preserving management balances.
This is how we define the relationships between these applications, which will be all the more symbiotic as the industrial domain in which the company evolves is subject to a strong propensity for change.
Beyond the general idea and in order to be in front of daily realities, the concrete translation of the concept can be broken down as follows.
